Description

In this lesson, students will concentrate on adjectives through reading for gist and specific information. They will be given a short paragraph based on the question 'Where are they from?' to develop the skill of scanning for specific information and then adjectives to understand its connotation. After , students will work on productive skills through writing a short dialogue.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Talk about their favorite countries -Write some abbreviations of the countries on the board -Divide the whole class into 2 groups -Give the instructions -Ask volunteer to come -Pronounce the country and ask them to circle the correct abbreviation

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Project the book on the board -Write Montreal, New York City, France on the board -Focus on the picture and ask some questions to make themask questions to each other such as 'Are they married?', 'Where are they now?' -Pre-teach the vocabulary in the text

While-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

-Play the audio of the text -Let them read on their own one more time -Ask them to work in pairs to fill in the gaps in exercise 2. -Pass out the answer key and ask them to check their answers

While-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

-Write 3 questions on the board 'What is her job?','What is his job?','Where is she from?' -Have Ss answer these questions with their partner

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to get to know about adjectives

-As they have already learn am, is , are they will try to fill in the blanks in Grammar Spot part -Show visuals or mime the adjectives -Draw a line to show which of the adjectives have positive or negative meaning.(awful,bad,good,really good, fantastic) -Write these adjectives on the board(awful,look, centre, hospital , weather , beautiful, building -Show the adjective presentation ask them to match the adjectives with the picture -Play the Audio 2.11 -Ask them to fill in the blanks -Pair check -Give them the answer key

Speaking Practice (5-11 minutes) • To make them create their own dialogue.

-Stick the city photos -Give the instructions -Form Ss into 4 or 5 groups and give the city name for each group -Ask them to stand up and create a dialogue about that city
