Main Aims

To introduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency when negotiating informally. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to use functional exponents (agreeing, disagreeing, hedging) when negotiating informally.
Subsidiary Aims

To give learners practice in speaking fluently in a discussion/negotiation context.
Procedure (33-44 minutes)
Show them a picture of people negotiating and ask these questions: “Everyone should turn on their cameras.” -Do you agree? -How would you negotiate with your teacher about the cameras use? -Is it more comfortable to turn it off? “How about we agree to keep cameras optional during explanations, but when we do group or pair work, we try to turn them on so it feels more natural?” To engage them with the topic first.
Tell them: You'll hear an audio about people negotiating. Students listen to find out who the participants are in each negotiation and what they want. Focus on the phrases. Share the audio script.
