İn this lesson the students, will read an article about the advantages and disadvantages of wikipedia and the leading problems of it being the only source when looking for an information.

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a An article in the context of Advantages and disadvantages of Wikipedia.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The lesson will start ny discussing about how do the students gather information when needed. Have they ever used Wikipedia? İf yes, do they think it's a good resource to collect information?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

The students will be asked to read the article carefully and they will be expected to answer the following questions: What are the three advantages of Wikipedia? What are the two disadvantages? İs the writer for or against Wikipedia?

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The student's will be asked to read the article again and find the ten (Grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling) mistakes in the text. Then the article layout will be drawn on board to explain how to correctly organize an article. they will be informed about the language used in the letter mentioning: Listing advantages: First/Firstly,.... Second,... Third,... Listing disadvantages: On the other hand there are also (some) disadvantages... For instance, / For example,... Also,... Conclusion: In conclusion, / To sum up, I think...

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

By writing a similar article about smartphones mentioning the advantages and disadvantages of the usage of smartphones. They will be expected to follow the layout and for paragraph 2 they'll have to write about three advantages and for 3 paragraph three disadvantages and paragraph 4 conclusion. They have to say if they think smartphones are essential for modern life or not.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The students will exchange their ideas of advantages and disadvantages of smartphones and discuss. The letters will be collected in the end and the students will receive a feedback on their article to help them Fix the mistakes and improve their writings.
