Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to ask questions when the meet new people from their country or from different country. They are going to develop their listening skills as well through practicing. Students are also going to learn some places' names.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and gist, and practice listening.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice/ reinforce target language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce myself: consider asking the learners if they remember my name and to guess my name as this can lead in to the concept of prediction.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show a photo of a man and a woman. have learners guess their names and cities. Have learners listen and check their answers

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Use listening 2.7 Write on board: I am from Sao Paulo I am from Brazil My name is Bruno Have learners order these in order they hear them. Pair-check. Provide whole class feedback

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Use Listening 2.7: Have learners listen and fill the gaps, p.15, activity 4 Listening 2.8: have learners listen and fill in the gaps. Pair to check answers. Listen to 2.9: have learners listen and tick the correct sentence. pair to check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Use workbook page 12. Show the picture of the party to the learner. Have the learners invent a dialogue using target language. Have learners present Monitor and Provide whole class feedback after presentations as needed.
