Description

This lesson is focused on grammar practice (Past simple +Wh-questions and Yes/No question forms) in the context of describing people's daily life.Guided writing in the context of finishing the story.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Guided writing in the context of the finishing the story and speaking for practicing Past Simple questions.

Procedure

Warm-up/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

I'll show the pictures on the Pp from the previous lesson and ask Ss: Who are these people? Who's he?( business partner Gordon Smith) Who's she? ( Amanda-wife, daughter- Barbara,secretary Claudia Simeone) What's happened in the story? (murder) Who do you think was a murder?Why was the businessman killed? What did you say yesterday? Elicit information about the story Ss read in the last lesson. Skeleton on the board: I think______ murdered because__________. He/she murdered ______________last night.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming speaking and elicit new vocabulary.

Elicit from the Ss new vocabulary. What was the way the businessman was murdered last night? Look at te board.Can you think of the way to say he was killed? Was he -------- (mime the actions ) Was he shot? Was he stabbed in the heart? Was he stabbed in a neck? Was poisoned? Then Drill the words. Was he hit? Was he killed with a knife? If you hit somebody, can you hit with the bottle?

Using language (5-10 minutes) • Get ss talk and write about murder.

Now I want you to write 3 sentences to finish the story Use at least 5-6 verbs from the list. (Pp) Write in pairs. The end of the story can be funny, scary, surprised. You have 5 minutes. When you finish, stick your paper on the wall. Walk around and read other stories. ICQ; "Are you writing or talking?" "Are you writing a lot or 3-5 sentences?" "Are you using these verbs?" "Are you working alone?" Ss write their end of the story and then walk around and read their classmates work.

Pre-Speaking Stages (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target language.

Demo I'll ask S one question and S will answer. Write on the board: (This morning) What time wake up. ( finger count for drill) Hm, Is it Present or Past? What's wrong with this question? How do you know? ( Correct "What time did you wake up this morning?") I'll ask another S one question and S will answer. "What time / get up?"(Correct "What time did you get up this morning?) Very good. Write on the board another question:(When you were 10 years old) Another S. Where live? (use finger for drill) How to ask the question? (correct- "Where did you live when you were 10 years old?") Write on the board: Yesterday What have for breakfast?( Use fingers for drill) Ask S . (correct "What did you have for breakfast yesterday?") Write on the board:Last Saturday Write on the board: go shopping? (use finger for drill) Ask S. How to make a question? (correct "Did you go shopping last Saturday?") Write on the board: have a good time? Ask S how to make a question. (correct Did you have a good time last Saturday?)

Semi-controlled Speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide ss with semi-controlled talking activity to practice a Target language.

I'll give the cards with questions. Can you finish the questions, please? Work in pairs. ICQ: Are you writing the questions? If they didn't understand ask again. DO NOT TELL THE ANSWER! (No, we are making questions). Are you working alone?( in pairs) You have 7 minutes. Then you'll change your partners.
