Description

In this lesson, Ss will revise past simple and regular verbs based on the text A tale of two Sydneys. They will learn how to use WAS,WERE or DID in the sentences. After they remember the plot of the text, in open pairs they will ask questions. Then practice pronunciation of -ed endings of the regular verbs. They will continue to practice by creating the story and group work.

Materials

Abc Gap-fill handout; Pictures to create stories.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of The past simple; regular verbs in the context of Travel
  • Practice pronunciation
  • practice using WAS, WERE, DID in the sentences.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Practice pronunciation of the -ed endings in the past simple.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • Greeting the students. To set a context and engage them.

T shows the Ss picture on the screen to remind them the text from the previous lesson.T asks questions:Who are this people? Where did they go? did they go to Sydney, Australia?

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • Elicit target language for grammar and practice/

T displays sentences in the present simple and past simple to show contrast and elicits target language by concept check questions:Are this sentences in the present, past or future? Do we use do or did in the past tense? T displays exercise and solves 1-4 with the class, T asks questions: Is this a verb? What do we use was, were or did? Why was? Then T gives handouts and lets them do the rest in pairs. Then checks them and writes correct answers on the whiteboard.T:Do you have any questions?

Freer/ Less restricted practice (5-7 minutes) • Prepare ss for more practice

T tell Ss to work in open pairs and ask questions. T Checks pronunciation and intonation, helps them to pronounce -ed endings of regular verbs. -ed=/t/; -ed=/d/; -ed=/id/

Language clerification (10-12 minutes) • Practice pronunciation; Practice speaking

T gives Ss to listen to the audio script and drills them to pronounce sentences correctly. Then T displays pictures and gives ss directions for the next task. T distributes jumbled pictures to set them in order and then displays them in the correct order.

Feedback (5-7 minutes) • To wrap the activity. To highlight examples of good language. correct errors.

T tells Ss to tell the story in groups. If time remains correct errors on the whiteboard or oraly.
