Description

In this lesson,students practice meaning, a pronunciation of new words (past simple regular verbs and some new words from the text) and practice Wh-questions and speaking using these words. Practice speakinf for fluency.

Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will practice Wh-question in the past simple tense .Students will practice speaking for fluency in a semi-controlled activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation/ discussion, retelling the story. Students will practice expressing ideas in the context. Sub skills focussed on pronunciation and intonation in speaking.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

At the beginning of the lesson, introduce myself and ask ss names. Put Ss into colour groups. Show different pictures on Pp about me . To set the context I'll elicit information from ss by asking questions. 1st slide. This is me. Where am I from? (Azerbaijan-Baku is the capital). Where am I now? (In Georgia, Tbilisi. Tbilisi is a capital of Georgia). 2nd slide.What do you see on the picture? ( an airport, a plane Azal, luggage, seats in the plane) I got on the plane now I need to find my (seat) miming. What the word to say find my seat (to check). 3rd slide. How did I get here? Did I get here by (mime plane/landed/train/arrived) from Baku to Tbilisi? ( by plain) slide 4. What do you see on the picture ? (date November 2015) Is it this year? ( last year) I came here last year. We can say it in different ways: I came here last year/a year ago.(drill on fingers) Which month is this? (last November)

Pre-Speaking Stages (5-10 minutes) • Prepare Ss for the context and making it much more understandable for the students eliciting vocabulary from the students.

Slide 5. What do you see on the picture? ( fans, football team, football cup Manchester United Champions League). Elicit these words from ss. Who are these people?( football team) What do you call people who really like a football team? (fans) what's that? (football cup) Slide 6. A map of Spain and Chilli. Slide of the story. Show the cards - the parts of the story. What are we going to do? Put the pictures in a correct order. Which picture is first one? (show them). They have 5 minutes. Then check the answers of the different group. Check the answers. (the slide on Pp) Ask yes/no question to check understanding of the instructions and the following activity.Are we writing or reading? Are we reading slowly of fast? Are we putting the cards in an order? awe checking just our work?

While speaking (controlled practice) (5-6 minutes) • Helping the students enhance their speaking ability giving them some controlled practice activities.

(Call the s name) Which one is the first picture? What is it about? Tell it. What's the next picture? What's on the picture? Say the story to each other in an order.You have 5 minutes.

While speaking (controlled practice) (10-12 minutes) • To provide Ss with controlled practice of the target language.

(Call ss name) Did you travel by plane last year? (no) Did you learn English for a long time?(yes) - When did you start learning English? Demo 3-4 questions with ss from ex. 4, b. (New English File Student's Elementary Book). Questions and examples of the answers on the slide Pp. Did you travel by plane last year ?/ No, I didn't/ Yes, I did.-( if the answer is yes, ask next question))- Where did you travel by plane last year? -Did you start learning a long time ago?/No, I didn't./ Yes, I did.-When did you start learning? Now, everybody will have a handout. It's time to move. You can ask minimum 5 people.Make notes about people you ask. Check yes/no questions: If the answer "yes", will you ask next question?(yes) If the answer "no" will you ask the next question? (no). Are you sitting or walking around? Are listening or asking questions? Will you ask 1 person? T monitors and elicits correct/wrong answers.

Wrap-up stage . (4-5 minutes) • To wrap the target language up.

On the last activity, ss worked on speaking and asked each other questions.T, writes some mistakes that heard from the ss.and ask them what's the problem in the sentence. You did a really good speaking. Here two correct and 2/3 wrong sentences. What's wrong with them? They all correct the sentence together.
