Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to talk about imaginary future situation in the context of impossible wishes. The lesson start with a talk about how it could be, if we were a man and it followed bye a discussion about how it could be, if we were a gost.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of second conditional in the context of impossible wishes.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of impossible wishes.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will be started by a talk about my impossible wishes to being a man. it will be followed by asking students to tell the class that what they would do if they were a guy.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will choose 3 of my students sentences to write in the correct second conditional form on the board to draw their attention to the formula that I use

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will write second conditional on the board and ask the students some CCQs: Are the sentences about the imaginary situation? (No). Are the sentences about the possibe situation? (Yes). I will elicit the structure from the students by asking about the role of the words. if + verb (past simple form) to talk about imaginary situation and would/wouldn't+ based form to talk about consequence . I will let them know that would and wouldn't is the same for all persons.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students are going to do gap filling task on page 143 in the grammar bank in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to be divided into groups of 3 or 4. They will have 8 minutes to talk about what they would do, if they were a ghost. at the end, they are going to tell the class who in the group they think had the best idea of being a ghost. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
