Description

In this lesson students are going to learn to use passive voice to focus on the action or the object, not the doer through PPP in the context of book. The lesson starts with a talk about our favorite book. It is finished by a discussion about a book that changed students life or influenced them with a focus on accuracy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will be started by a talk about my favorite book, which I bring it to the class to show to the students. It will be followed by asking students to tell the class about their favorite book.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will choose some of my students sentences to write in the correct passive voice on the board to show them visually the proper use of passive

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I review active voice ,then I aske some CCQs(meaning) about the passive voice: Is the focus on the doer or the object? (object).Can we use passive if we don’t know who did it?(Yes).Does a passive sentence mean the same as the active sentence?(Yes).I will elicit the structure from the students by asking them about the role of the words as well as CCQs(form):What do we put before the past participle? be (is/was/are/were).Which form of the verb do we use in passive? past participle (V3),and negative and question forms of the passive will also be taught. I will let them know about past passive and present passive and how to use by when we want to say who did the action. Students will be reminded about the past participle, and will be given the list of important V3 verbs to read and memorize. They will be informed about the correct stress of passive sentences ,which usually falls on the new subject

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students are going to do 5 gap-fill task on page 145 in the grammar bank in 5 minutes individually. They will have 3 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to be divided into group of 3 or 4 .They will have 8 minutes to talk about a book that influenced them .at the end , they are going to share with the class which book had the strongest influence on them . They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
