  • To provide practice of modifiers in the context of theme restaurants.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of theme restaurants.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Put pictures of different theme restaurants on the walls. Show picture of a funny man and say: This is my friend Tom. He loves travelling and he has been to many countries. But he is bored. He doesn't want to see any more museums or historical places. He wants to see something interesting and he loves Elvis Presley. Ask students to stand up-look at the pictures and give advice to Tom about where he can have some fun. Ask students what are the places in the pictures? Help students and ellicit "theme restaurants". Write it on WB. Ellicit advice for Tom. -HArd-Rock Cafe New York-because there are lots of things about Elvis Presley.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Tell students "Now we are going to give some advice to Tom. Here are some advice for him. Please fill in the gaps with the correct adjectives on your own. Handout the activity. Give 5 minutes. Ask them to check in pairs. Monitor and correct where necessary. Ask sts how can we make our advice stronger or weaker? Reflect on WB. the table for modifiers. Ask students to find examples of modifiers from the text and undersline them in pairs. Give 5 minutes.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask students to come and complete the modifiers with the adjectives from the text. Clarify by asking: Do we use modifiers before or after an adjective? Before. Ask students to look back at their advice to Tom, and put suitable modifiers to make the advice stronger or weaker in pairs. Give 3 minutes.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask sts to write 6 sentences about where you can eat out in their cities. Remind them to use modifiers and adjectives. Write some adjectives on WB and tell sts to refer to them. Give 8 minutes. Monitor and help where necessary. Ask sts to check their answers in pairs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask sts to plan their own 'theme' restaurant in pairs. Give 8 minutes.Handout questions to help them. Monitor and help where necessary.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask sts to describe their restaurants to their friends. And decide which restaurant is the best.
