Description

In this lesson, students will learn about Present Perfect Continuous tense form through the listening, speaking , and grammar activities. Students will recall their prior knowledge and will become familiar with the new topic.

Materials

Main Aims

  • At the end of the lesson students will have become familiar with present perfect continuous tense and its usage based on some listening and speaking activities in the form of groups and pair works.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice semi-controled speaking in the context and the pronunciation focus sentence stress.

Procedure

warm up/lead in (4-6 minutes) • To get Ss involved in the lesson. To arose Ss interest.

Ss will interview their partners. On the PowerPoint, there will be an image of two different countries. They will ask 3 questions to find out the preferences of their classmates about advantages and disadvantages of working or studying abroad.Then they will choose 1 the most interesting answer and share with the class.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To pre are students to the text and make it acceptable.

Look at the picture. (Image of Karen PowerPoint) Ask the questions and prediction about the topic. I'll ask students 3-4 questions to attract their attention for the following activity. What do you see on the picture? Who is that person? What's your prediction? What will be the topic about? Then SS will read the text (on the PowerPoint) My questions to check Ss understanding. What did you find about this woman? What's her name?What does she do? What has happened in her life? To check the meaning of the phrase "take a year off".

Listening for gist and the specific information. (5-9 minutes) • To enable the students to get the main idea of the text.

You are going to find out some interesting facts about Karen's life.We are going to listen to it 2 times. So here, some questions. Read them first.Underline the key words. What's the keyword? ( the most important word) This will help you to focus on the most important facts. Then you will check the answer with your partner. We will listen again to check the answers. For the Feedback -check the answers as a class.

Set the context (7-13 minutes) • To set the context,to activate/eliciting Ss prior knowledge about Present perfect Continuous.

To show SS PowerPoint (about me).Elicit information from the students to engage them to ask the questions and make a connection between different pictures to guide them to use Present Perfect Continuous . To make a model on the whiteboard to draw a picture and to write their comments. To write the keywords ( since 19.06.16, for 10 days) to help Ss to ask the questions using Present Perfect Continuous. Put them in pairs and let them practice. Concept Questions: Do I live in Baku? Am I in Baku now? Do I work at TISA? When did I arrive? Am I still in Tbilisi? Am I working at school now? Where am I working/studying now? How long am I in Tbilisi? Can you use a different tense form to describe this? (to ask me ) I've been living for... /since Think with your partner and ask the question of what I have been doing in Tbilisi For 10 days/ since 19.6.16 (The images and the model of the question on the PowerPoint)

While listening for specific information and presentation (5-9 minutes) • To provide Ss with more specific details.

Ss will listen and fill the gaps using the words for and since. For the Feedback Check with the partners. Look at section B. Introducing the action non-action verbs. Elicit what is an action verb and what is a non-action verb? Give examples: Compare. I love you. I cross the street. What did I say? Is it a noun?Is it a verb? Does it show any action? Ask SS give the example of the action and non-action verbs.

Presenting and Practice New Language (10-12 minutes) • To provide guided practice to clarify the introducing New grammar

Work with handouts . Two examples from the previous exercise. Look through the question. Underline the verbs.Discuss in pairs. The sentence on the board: I've teaching belly dancing for about 6 years. Yes/ no questions as a class. (The questions are written on the worksheet). Concept questions: What's (I) in the sentence? - subject. What comes next? (has/have been) +verb + ing What tense is this? - Present Perfect Continuous. Exercise 4.Complete the following gaps with Positive -Negative and - Question form for the Present Perfect Continuous. Check on the board.

Feedback/ error correction (4-6 minutes) • To check SS confident usage Present Perfect Continuous, -new language

Feedback . Tell me 1 positive and negative sentence about yourself in Present Perfect Continuous.
