Upper- Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, the students will be introduced to ( look, look like, look as if ) to give a description or opinion about someone's appearance. It starts with a display of an actress' 's picture who loos scared. The students will describe her first and answer 3 questions about her using the 3 structure's of ( look) . Theteacher will elicit the meaning and form through CCQs. Then they will move to a controlled practice, and speaking activities that allows them to speak and practice the TL.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Conversations in the context of Actors a

Procedure

Lead in (1-2 minutes) • To engage students.

The teacher will start by showing a picture of an actress on the board who seems scared. Instructions: How you think she feels ? Why ?

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To expose students to the habitat of the target language .

After the teacher elicits some answers from the students about how she feels like . The teacher will show the questions on the board and ask the students to work it out in pairs in less than a minute. The teacher will elicit the answers from some students . Then the teacher will show the answer keys on the board.

Focus on the TL (2-5 minutes) • To clarify meaning and form

The teacher will give hand outs to the students that has CCQs on them and give them 1 or minutes to figure out the answers individually first and then they check their answers in pairs. Then the teacher makes WCFB. Then the teachers try to clarify the form after the meaning by eliciting the analysis of the sentence from the students on the board .

Controlled practice (5-10 minutes) • To practice the meaning, form and pronunciation of the TL .

The teacher will hand out an adapted exercise from the student's book page 68. They will work individually first and then check in pairs . Then the teacher will ask three students at a time to come to the board and circle the correct form. Then we will as WC the mistakes and ask why they chose these answers . Then we will start back chain drilling.

Semi controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • To practice the form of the TL.

The teacher will handout gap fill activity . And the students has to fill it using the structure that comes after ( look, look like, look as if or as though) . They will check their answers in pairs and then WCFB . The teacher will write on the board this time and check answers with the students

Freer practice. (6-10 minutes) • To practice speaking the TL.

The teacher is going to show the picture if the actors in page 69. The teacher is going to explain quickly that these are actors playing certain characters in certain situations .I will demo one picture and then ask them to do the same. The students will discuss in pairs how the characters look like and their specific situation. The teacher will ask a few students for their feedbacks

Free practice (4-5 minutes) • To produce what they have learned sof far .

The students will be asked to create dialogues of two people, friends, or colleagues using the TL . Then role play it in front of the class.
