Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

part a show the picture of the girl on page 47. Then ask " Do you think she's a pessimist or an optimist ?

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

i,ll start by telling them to read the first paragraphs. then I,ll ask them " What is defensive pessimism ? " I,ll give them 2 minutes to answer.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

In this part students will do part c by themselves and then 1 minute to tell their answers to others. Students will be chosen to do part d of page 47 for 3 minutes. Student will discuss part e of page 47 in pairs then the whole class

Post-Reading/Listening (6-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

part f Students will discuss part F of page 47 in groups. After that some of them will share their ideas with the class
