Subsidiary Aims

  • Learners will be able to answer the questions from their own practice understanding the context. They will develop their listening and speaking activities in the topic of numbers.

Warm Up (5-6 minutes) • Students will activate their previous knowledge about numbers.

I will ask the students to ask their pairs about their ages, date of birth, how many people are they in the family and to find out the most memorable date in their life. they will take some notes during the activity and will tell us about what they have learned.

Task (2-3 minutes) • to recall what they knew from numbers

I will dictate them the numbers given in ex 5 a, they will note down the numbers in correct forms and then they will exchange their answers with their pairs. After they finish, I will let them listen to the recording and check if they are correct or not. I will give them feedback at the same time they are discussing.

Eliciting (7-9 minutes) • Students will guess the numbers, percentages and decimals

I will draw grids on the board and will separate it into small boxes. I will ask; -How many small boxes make the whole grid? -100 boxes I will shade 10 box and ask; - what part of the grid is shaded? -1/10 (One tenth) I will shade 20 boxes and ask: - what part of the grid is shaded now? - 20/100=1/5 (two tenth or one fifth) I will shade 25 boxes and ask; - what part of the grid is shaded? - 25/100= 1/4 (a quarter) I will shade all the boxes - 100% is shaded. Then I will give them related vocabulary indicating the taught numbers such as decimals, percentage and fractions. Will do corrections on the spot in their pronunciation.

Task (5-7 minutes) • They will use new language in order to memorize the number vocabulary.

I will ask students to write the next exercise on the book, after they finish, they will check it with another S. Then they will listen to the recording. After the recording I will highlight that several options are possible as answers, that is why it is normal to have various responses to the questions. Ex, 2 and 50, 2 pounds and fifty etc.
