In this lesson ss will review present perfect and past simple in the speaking section. Presenting reading material focusing on context and phrasal verbs.

Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ss will have revised present perfect and past simple to talk about money related context and learnt phrasal verbs from the reading material

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To welcome ss and liven them up.

T gives ss to walk around and ask each other what time did you get up in the morning? After that T gives instructions: Stand in order according what time they woke up.

Speaking (7-10 minutes) • Focus on instructions. Set the context about how do people spend money. Elicit answers from ss.

T Shows the video and gives instructions: Find out if your friends have ever wasted money on something they never used and why. After the feedback T gives instructions: I am going to give you handouts; read them carefully ;build the questions and ask them around the class. Ss on the right will ask the ss on the left. T shows the contrast between present perfect and past simple. Display time expressions.

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • Focus on sentences that best describes there attitude to money.T makes sure students are aware of the new words.

T displays the sentences. asks ss to work in pairs and find out which sentences are true for them. T gets feedback from ss.

Reading (25 minutes) • First read the article and Elicit answers asking questions. Make sure everyone understands the context.

T gives instructions: read the text, make sure you get the answers. T gives 3 minutes and gives handouts to ss. After that Tasks questions to some student. T tells ss to read the text again and now concentrate on the highlighted phrasal verbs. Point them out and write them on the Whiteboard. After discussing the meanings ask them to fill the gaps. On the white board: GAVE UP GAVE AWAY THROW AWAY SET UP LOOKING AFTER TURNS UP

Sum-up (5-10 minutes) • develop speaking

T asks the ss to discuss questions in pairs. give 3 minutes and get feedback. If time remains correct ss errors.
