Procedure (28-40 minutes)
First I would show learners 2 photos from the internet. Example a. A photo of children celebrating a birthday b. An adult celebrating a birthday Question: I will ask the leaners the following questions related to the two photos. a. When is your birthday?? b. What type of special presents have you gotten on your birthday? who gave you the present? c. What is your dream birthday? They will talk about it in pairs. This will activate the leaners prior knowledge,help them to work collectively and to be confident in communicating with others.
I will bring out some vocabulary from an audio and discuss the meaning and pronunciation. later I will ask them to complete a task. The meaning and pronunciation of vocabulary supports learners to exchange ideas correctly and communicate actively. What food do people eat at birthday parties in England? 3. How do children in Malaysia celebrate birthdays? 4. What is a popular activity at birthday parties in Brazil? ANSWER... Children celebrate birthdays with their family... In England People eat Jelly,sausage rolls and sandwiches... This will help learners to improve their communication skills , enhanced critical thinking before answering questions.
I will ask the students to prepare for a free practice to improve their speaking skills. The following questions will be shown on the screen for the learners to discuss with a partner . (a) Do you like to celebrate your birthday alone or with other people?Why? (b) How would you plan your birthday party? (3)How are your birthday celebrations different from other birthday celebrations around the world? (4) What kind of birthday presents do you like to receive on your birthday (5) Do you think everyone should celebrate their birthday in a big way or small way? Why? This will help them to be confident and exchange their own ideas freely
Here I will provide the necessary corrections to the learners and encourage them to continue to practice more. These corrections will be from the answers during the discussion tasks. This will guide them towards achieving their goals. It will also help them to build confidence
