Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn about (Would rather ) and all its forms: positive, negative , question, and the form used to talk about what we would prefer another person to do through reading discovery where they are introduced to the habitat of the target language to learn how it is used . Then they will practice the TL by controlled and free practices throughout the lesson.

Procedure

Warmer (3-4 minutes) • To create interest in the text.

Teacher show a picture of people arguing. Instructions : What are these people doing ? How do you think they feel like ? Teacher shows two questions on the board: Who do you usually argue with? And about what do you argue? Teacher asks students to discuss in pairs and ask each other's the questions on the board. After one and a half, teacher ask the students about their partners , Who do they argue with? and about what?

Prediction (1-2 minutes) • To set up the following activity and to make the task easier to understand.

The teacher will show a HO to the students and ask them : Whta do you think the task is about ?students try to guess according to the warmer picture.

Gist reading (2-4 minutes) • To create reasons to read the text and make it easier to understand.

Teacher will ask the students before she hands in the HO. Instructions: "Please read the text below quickly . I will give you 1 minute to answer the pretask activity that is which statement is correct individually. After 1 minute, teacher will ask the students to check in pairs and then write the answer on the board . Then the teachers ask

While reading (3-4 minutes) • To provide the students with less challenging gist and prepare for the presentation of the functional languages targeted.

The teacher will ask the students to read the text again and answer the questions in exercise 2 . The teacher will ask the students to work in pairs and check their answers . And write on the board.

Guided discovery/ CCQ (4-5 minutes) • To eli it the meaning of TL of this lesson.

The teacher asks the students to look at the sentences in question 1 and try to work the questions out with a partner . Then the teacher gets feedback from the students regarding the meaning of ( would rather ) in a sentence. The teacher may Ask one of the students a question : would you rather go shopping or bowling? to elicit personal examples from the students.

Accuracy (5-10 minutes) • To focus on the correct form of grammar.

Students work individually to do exercise 3. Then they check in pairs .one or two students are going to answer he question on the board by highlighting the firm in one of the examples above. The teacher will ask the students to point out the difference between ( would rather ) and ( would prefer). Then the teacher elicits the positive form of ( would rather ) from the students . After this , the teacher asks the students to underline the other forms on ( would rather ) in the text.and complete exercise 3.

Controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To practice the TL introduced earlier.

The teacher divides the students in to two groups . Each group are given 3 questions in colors. They work on it in a group and rush to the board to write their answers.

Freer practice (5-8 minutes) • To use the target language in a conversation.

Ex,5b p.67 . Students with be divided into pairs .each pair will ask and answer using ( would rather) in positive and questions form. And the will switch partners to extend the conversation and give more time to practice the target language.

Free practice (5-10 minutes) • To provide speaking practice in the context of argument

The teacher changes the seaging arrangements of the students so that they can sit comfortably face to face to speak . The teacher will show some handouts of role play cards . StudentA/ student B. Mother / son. The teacher will clarify that they will argue in pairs about the topic introduced in the röle play card. Teacher will monitor while the activity is taking place
