Main Aims

  • To practise reading for specific information and detail in the context of people's lives.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To revise job vocabulary
  • To practise controlled speaking- Yes/No questions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T introduces the topic and shows pictures using a power point presentation and ask questions to elicit knowledge of the SS on the topic. Other pictures, mime will be used to elicit some vocabulary embedded in the reading text.

Pre-Reading (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

SS will be given the reading material on the power point and the Questions beside it. T will demonstrate to students how to read for specific information and detail by focusing on the required word needed from the questions and use the word to find the answer from the reading text.

While-Reading (2-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

The T hands out a copies of the reading text and questions to SS and instructs SS to do the same with the reading questions and text. The T then monitors them to see if they understand the task.

Post-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T tells SS to work in pairs to check their answers, also T gives out the answer key on the power point presentation.

Listening and speaking activity (3-5 minutes) • To be able to guess jobs and confirm if they are correct

T instructs the SS about a listening activity where they will have to underline the ten questions that was asked. T asked them to write yes or No as an answer to each question.

Speaking Practice (5-8 minutes) • To practise controlled speaking with Yes/ No questions.

T instructs students to work in pairs and ask themselves questions based on their jobs using the vocabulary they have learnt and respond with a yes or no answer.

Matching activity (3-7 minutes) • To familiarise themselves with different professions or jobs

T presents a matching activity and demonstrate a few to the students and hands out copies of the activity for the SS to engage themselves with. SS will work in groups to find out the perfect match. T then gives the answer key. to find out the correct answer.
