Main Aims

To teach Ss the correct usage of will and going to and help them understand the difference between them via instructions.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide students with speaking practice in discussing personal plans and spontaneous decisions using the target language.
Procedure
Show Ss the first slide of the PowerPoint and engage them by asking questions. such as: *Will they win any awards in the future? *When do you think they will retire?
*Giving Ss handouts which includes examples of the target language *Asking Ss to read the text individually and then pair them into small groups and asking them to discuss the text and reach a conclusion. *Inviting each group to share their conclusion with the whole class. *Drawing a timeline on the board and explaining the future timeline, showing how will and going to can be used to describe future plans.
*Explaining the usage of will and going to for talking about future plans *Highlighting the differences between will and going to via instructions. For example: Will is used for spontaneous decisions, promises and opinions (you have an exam. I will help you) Going to is used for pre-planned actions and predictions with evidence (It is cloudy. It is going to rain tonight) *Explaining and practicing the shortened forms and natural pronunciation of will and going to , for example: I will ~ I"ll , He will ~ He"ll I'm going to ~ I'm gonna , They are going to ~ They're gonna *Checking Ss understanding of the difference between will and going to by asking guided questions. Such as: I"ll help you, is this pre-planned or spontaneous? We're going to France, Was this decided before or just now? *Ss will work in groups to make predictions about the future of famous people using will and going to while the T monitors Ss and provides feedback as needed. then groups share their predictions with the class
*Ss are mixed into new groups and discuss their plans for the next 2 years, using will and going to to describe their intentions and predictions while the T monitors Ss and provides feedback as needed.
