Description

In this lesson students will develop language in terms of asking for information through listening and speaking activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for asking for information in the context of language courses.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about language courses in the context of asking for information.
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of language courses.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher greets students and introduces herself. Asks students to write their names and stick it infont of their desks. Teacher sticks adverts of different language courses on the walls and asks students to roam about and look at the adverts 2 mins. Students sit down. Teacher asks: What are they? Adverts. What are they about? Language courses. Which one are you interested in? Why? Teacher asks: What would you like to ask about the course? Teacher says: Today we are going to see and practise examples of "asking questions for information."

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Teacher checks understanding of short forms of days. Teacher says: Now we listen to a man asking for information about a course in a French Language School. Ask students to read the informations on the page and ask anything they do not understand.. Then ask sts to listen and underline the correct information. repeat the recording. Whole class feedback.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask students to look at exercise 2 and do it in pairs. As students to listen to the recording again and check their answers. Stop the recording when we hear the phrases and drill chorally and individually.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Functuonal Language 1: Ask sts to rearrange the words to make questions. solo. Handout audio scripts and ask students to check their questions. Drill chorally and individually. Speaking 1: Give out A3 papers to students to prepare posters. Ask students to work in pairs and plan an evening school using the questions in the exercise. Ask students to stand up and come front in two lines facing eachother, and ask questions to find out about eachother's schools. T monitors closely and takes notes. Then students stick their adverts on the walls and ask questions to eachother for information. T monitors closely and takes notes.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher writes some common errors on WB, and asks sts to correct them. Teacher clarifies the necessary points.
