Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of first conditional in the context of future plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of future plans

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by a talk about my students plan after finishing this English Course. (will you continue learning the English language if you pass your final exam?) I will use present simple and modal auxiliary verbs that students have got familiar with before.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage I will write some of the correct sentences that my students have made on the whiteboard to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning by the following grammar tips: This grammar is used when we want to talk about probable future situations that are likely to happen. Conditional sentences consist of two parts (if clause + main clause). The main clause depends on the if clause. Then I will ask some CCQs;(Are the sentences about past, present or future? Present and future. Presents are the if clause? Yes. Futures are the main clause? Yes. Are the situations in the future possible to happen? Yes.) After that I will elicit the structure by writing two examples to clarify how to form the sentences and according to the examples I will explain that in conditional sentences the if clause comes first and we use a comma after the first part to separate the if clause and the main clause. The main clause can be used at the beginning of the sentence and in this case, the meaning of the sentence won't be changed but we do not use comma in this sentence. In the if clause part we use sub + present simple verb and in the main clause part we use sub + modal auxiliary verb +the base form of the verb.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage the students are going to do exercise B on the page 141 in the grammar bank in 4 minutes. They will have 2 minuets to check their answers in pairs. Then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage I will want my students to answer these three questions: 1- Where will you go if you go on a trip next holiday? 2_Will you go to the beach if you travel to the North of Iran? 3- Will you swim in the sea if you go to the beach?
