Description

In this lesson, students learn about present prefect through different activities about phobias. The lesson starts with a vocabulary section, introducing specific names for some common phobias. This is followed by a listening practice of some people talking about their phobias and their own experience related to this. The grammar section and pronunciation then introduce the grammatical point about usage of for or since with present perfect. Moreover, there is a speaking section where students practice the grammar by asking questions with present perfect and a free role play of survey asking their peers about how long a situation has continued from past till now. Finally, the lesson is finished with a reading section that reinforces both vocabulary and grammar.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the present perfect tense in the context of their personal feelings or experiences like fear

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of their personal feelings or experiences like fear using the new grammar point and being able to ask questions as well.

Procedure

Greeting (5-7 minutes) • create a friendly environment to warm up

Asking ss how their day was and also asking about their personal experiences about common electricity outage these days and trying to relate it to the topic of fear.

Vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • Make students familiar with phobias and how to express fear

1.They will look at the pictures and express their own phobias if there are any. 2.They should match the different phobia names to the examples but before that I will provide some visual aids to make them familiar with the names. 3.They will learn some substitute for the word afraid from part c.

Listening (15-18 minutes) • Pre-teach blocking vocabs and enhance their listening skills

providing the ss with the words that are in the listening, and then listen chunk by chunk to the speakers and do the related exercises.

Grammar (10 minutes) • Teach present perfect with for and since

Teach them what present perfect is and how to use for or since for unfinished situations using timeline drawings on the board. Practice the gap-fill exercises in the class. Give them page 143,9b of student book and part 2 page 63 of workbook for homework.

pronouncation (5-6 minutes) • sentence stress in present perfect

I will explain the sentence stress and the rhythm of sentences with present perfect and draw some arrows showing the stress and repeating after listening to the audio samples. Give them pronunciation section page 63 of workbook for homework, they have to send a voice massage repeating the sentences with the stress and intonation in the WhatsApp group.

Reading (10-12 minutes) • Pre-teach blocking vocabs and enhance reading skills

pre-teach some drug related vocabulary and then teach them the technique to answer T or F questions. Ask them one by one why they think the sentence is true or false. There should not be any confusion about the lesson, grammatical point or ways of expressing fear by the end of this section.

Speaking (18-20 minutes) • Enhance students’ fluency

SS should circle around the class and ask others the questions and give their opinions and experiences and fill the survey. Then I ask them what was their friends answers to the questions. They have to be able to use the present perfect for answers.

Wrapping up (3-5 minutes) • finishing the session

asking ICQ to ensure they understand the homework and the process of doing them, giving time to ss to ask any other questions about the lesson
