Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask: What are the main tasks you do (or expect to do) as a vet during the day? What kind of language or expressions might appear in a video like that? Write keywords on the board (check-ups, emergencies, treatment, diagnosis, owner questions).

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Explain Cornell Notes Method Students prepare to take notes from the video, and set aside a portion of their notebook to serve as a glossary.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Play a 2–3 minute excerpt of a "day in the life of a vet" video. Task: Students answer: Where is the vet working? What kind of patients are shown? What type of procedures are mentioned? Quick pair check and confirm answers as a class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Replay the clip. Students take structured notes: Left column: keywords / questions Right column: supporting info / answers Bottom: short summary Encourage questions if they don’t catch something.

Post-Reading/Listening (13-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students work in small groups to: Retell the vet’s day using their notes Make a list of any unfamiliar words or expressions they remember hearing Instructor collects vocab on the board for final discussion. Explain pronunciation and meaning. Students copy into their glossaries.
