Procedure (36-44 minutes)
Paste visual aid on the middle of the board. Ask Ss what they see and what the pictures have in common. Ask them to discuss in pairs which of the events in the pictures they would like to attend, why, and if they have attended a similar event recently. Demo: I would prefer to attend the music festival because I've never been to one before and it would be a great experience to share with friends...I have not attended a music festival, but I recently attended a wedding. The wedding was..." Ss will spend 3 min in this activity. While they discuss, I write the questions on the board. Ask one or two Ss to share their peers' answers.
Give Ss handout. Ask them to think of 2 of the most memorable events in their lives like a concert, a football match, a festival, a march, a party, and list what they liked and didn't like about the event. Demo: I attended a wedding, something I liked was the atmosphere in the dance floor. Something I didn't like was the music at 2 am, so I stopped dancing and had to talk to some people I didn't like. Tell them they will work individually and that they will have 4 min to complete the activity. ICQ: "How much time do you have?" "Is this individual work or in pairs?" Monitor and micro-teach if necessary
Give Ss the MFP handout and ask them to read the phrases or sentences on the left and cross or check the meaning on the right columns. Answer as a group the first row to provide example. Give them 3 minutes to complete the activity individually. While Ss solve the exercise, write the answers on the board and the marker sentences for the MFP. Check the answers of the MFP handout as a group. Cover intonation for sentence 1: It was the MOST…I’ve EVER. Make Ss repeat after you. Linking between “I’ve ever” Cover intonation for sentence 2: on the WHOLE, it was exTREMEly imPRESSive. Make Ss repeat after you. Cover intonation for sentence 3: It was ABSOLUTEly EXHAUSTing! Make Ss repeat after you.
Explain to the Ss they are going to interview each other in pairs about the the first event they attended that they wrote about in the Content input handout. They will have 5 minutes to talk about it, then, they will do the same about the second event with a different partner for another 5 minutes. They will go back to event one or two for the third repetition with a different partner. They will have two minutes at the end of the activity to agree on who attended the best event. Ask them to begin talking and that they can look at the board for topics of conversation they can cover.
The Ss need to agree on who attended the best event overall. To do this, they will interview each other in pairs and then discuss their findings at the end together. Write on the board ideas on what they can discuss as they begin the task such as: -what the event was -where and when it took place -who was with them -why they decided to go -their expectations before the event -the best moment in the event -their feelings after the event
Nominate Ss and ask who they believe attended the best event and describe which events they would have liked to attend themselves.
DEC of errors in the speaking task. Write wrong sentences if no errors were heard and praise the good work of Ss
