Description

In this lesson students learn about past simple through PPP in the context of holiday. The lesson starts with a discussion about last weekend. It is followed by a discussion about their best holiday ever with a focus on students' speaking accuracy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will be started by a talk about my last weekend. The I will ask my students to tell me about their weekend and the things that happened to them.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of my students' sentences in the correct simple past form on the board.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and ask my students these questions: (Are the sentences about the past, present, or future? Past). (Are the actions finished/completed? Yes). (Can I mention the exact time they happened? Yes). I will ask my students about the roll of the words and the changes that we have made to the verbs to form the past simple verbs. Irregular verbs will be mentioned using a table. The pronunciation of the verbs when they are added ed will be mentioned as well. played /d/. asked /t/. created /Id/.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise 1A on page 120 in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then they will be checked with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to talk to each other about their best holiday ever in groups of 4 in 8 minutes. Then they are going to tell the class about the person they think had the best holiday in their group.
