Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice the singular form of "to be " in yes / no questions and short answers in the context of personal info

Subsidiary Aims

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet the students Ask Ss what they remember about the characters in the pictures. -Who is she ? -Is he a doctor ? -Is she a musician ? - Is he a poli├že officer ?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Put the students in pairs for exercise 5 -Ask them tick the correct answers individually , then work in pairs and compare your answers. - Ask them to say the answers one by one by raising their hands.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students do the exercise 6 on their own , then compare answers in pairs.While they are working ,I copy the table onto the board , It will be ready to check. I will give them piece of paper also , they will write the answers and come to the board to stick the answers.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-I will point out that we can also say No , you're not , No , he's not , No , she's not and No , it's no. -I highlight that we don't use contractions in positive short answers : Yes , you are., not Yes , you're., Yes , I am.not Yes , I'm , Yes , he is.not , Yes , he's. -Ask some questions to check the understanding Am I teacher ? Yes , you are. Are you a student ? Yes , I am. Are you a teacher ? Yes , I am.

Listening • to check the students pronounce correctly

The Ss listen and practice.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will write the sentences on the board while they are doing the exercise 8a on their own.Then I ask them to come to the board and write the answers.I will check the answers with the class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The Ss do the exercise 8b in pairs.Remind the students to use the correct short answers. Monitor closely and give individual feedback if necessary. They will write a question and stick it onto board , then they will write answers for these questions.

free practice (5-10 minutes) • check the understanding of making yes / no questions and answers and jobs

Exercise 9 a)-Put the Ss into new pairs , Student A and Student B.Student As turn to SB p 87 and Student Bs turn to SB p92. -Check they are all looking at the correct exercise. -Students work on their own and write yes / no questions to check the highlighted information. -They are not allowed to look at each other's book. -Monitor and check their questions for accuracy. b) -Students work with their partners. -Students As ask their questions from a and either tick the correct information or change the incorrect information for each person.
