303 Session 3
B1+ level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To develop students’ reading and listening comprehension skills in the context of how people meet their partners, while recycling and practicing vocabulary related to relationships.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To review and practice past and present tenses (used to, past simple, present perfect, past continuous) to talk about past habits and events, and to encourage oral fluency through personal storytelling.
Procedure (50-78 minutes)
I will first teach the meaning of the word "anecdote" and then will tell students to tell 2 anecdotes about themselves, 1 true and the other imaginary, then their partner should guess which one's which, I won't correct the students too much since the aim is fluency.
We will go to page 118 and I explain the task to them and will ask them to read the article in the class, then will ask them to write their writing in the same way and style and about the same topic.
I start with a question about how they have met their best friends and elicit ideas from them, then I will write down 3 sentences on the board so I can distinguish the difference between the meanings of the word "meet" in different situations. Then I will ask students to gimme their ideas about how the couples in the photo might have met and we begin the reading.
Before the reading, I will pre-teach any necessary vocabulary and then I will ask the students to read a paragraph each after that we will go through each one of the exercises and I explain the exercises simply and will ask the required ICQs and we will finish the gist and detailed part of the reading.
I will ask questions about the article from the students and will encourage them to talk about the same situation i.e. meeting someone for the first time, possibly under awkward circumstances, and will help them with any possible error or mistake that they might have when they want to talk about this matter.
Since the actual grammar is going to be taught in the next session, here, I will just provide some examples about past and present habits, and then will proceed to play the audio and go through exercises a and b those of which I have explained thoroughly and beforehand, the students will then check their answers with a partner.
