In this lesson students learn about the good things about being a pessimist through reading They also learn about a selection of words

To provide detailed reading practice using a text about defencive pessimism in the context of exam and possible futuren

Warmer/Lead-in (1-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Reading "Look at this girl. Do you think she is an optimist or a pessimist ?" Then give students time to read the passage in detail.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

part B "What is defensive pessimism?"

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-18 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks
