In this lesson students learn about the good things about being a pessimist through a reading. They also learn a selection of new words

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about pessimism and optimism in the context of an exam

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of types of actions in the context of pessimism

Procedure

lead in (1-4 minutes) • preparing the class for the reading

in this part I'll ask them if they think they are a pessimist or an optimist and which one do they think is better

pre teach (4-7 minutes) • pre teaching key words

in this part I'll start teaching some key words using the white board avoid prepare and defencive

scanning (7-9 minutes) • to scan the reading quickly

In this section the student have time to quickly scan the reading and answer 2 to 3 questions. "By the things she's thinking, Do you think she's a pessimist or an optimist?" "Say some small sentences that are examples of optimism in the reading "

Read the passage (9-14 minutes) • to read the passage in detail

In this section student have time to fully read the paragraphs

post reading (14-16 minutes) • to make sure they fully understood the passage

start doing part e of the student book with the whole class

finishing task (17-20 minutes) • Speaking
