This lesson's topic is about the impatience of humans in modern days.

Main Aims

  • To provide skimming and detailed reading practice with the help of a passage about different causes and signs of humans impatience.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of impatience, talking about their experiences being impatient and their views on everything getting faster.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage, student are asked to do exercise a of page 38, to find out how fast their lives are according to the answers they gave and the point system for the answers in the page 109. Then they could discuss the accuracy of the statements for their scores, about their actual lives.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage, the students are going to be thought the meaning of the words: impatient (adj) - stuck(n) - broadband (n) through visual aids and then will be asked to use the words in some examples.(fill the blank)

While-Reading #1 (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage, students are asked to read the title and the first paragraph of the passage so they can answer the question: What is the main reason why life is faster today?. (so first I state the question and then I'll ask them to read the title and the first paragraph of the passage to find the answer)

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

In this stage, first the students are going to look at the questions in exercise d of the page 38. Then they will be asked to read the article more slowly and intensively. And at the end each question will be assigned to a student and their answers and the reasons for them will be checked with the whole class.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will be asked to do exercise e of the page 38 until we find our 5 words from the article related to technology. Then the 3 Questions of exercise f will be discussed by the students one by one (each question can be assigned to a student to save time)
