Description

In this lesson, ss will study the future with be going to, will and the present continuous and the difference between them in use.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To study the future with be going to , will and the present continuous

Subsidiary Aims

  • To write and speak about future plans.

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • to lead the ss in the lesson and to build up a context.

I will show ss a picture and ask them what might happen. I will elicit answers from ss. I will ask ss "Are we talking about the present, past or the future? Then, I will ask them about their plans for this weekend. I will elicit answers from ss. I will elicit answers from ss.

Gist task (4-6 minutes) • To help ss to notice the target language.

I will give ss a reading text ( a conversation about a party) and ask them to answer the following questions.(individually) Ss will check answers in groups. I will monitor. I will check answers with ss.

Eliciting the target language. (6-8 minutes) • To elicit the target language from the ss' comprehension of the text.

I will divide the class into groups and ask students to explain why certain questions used 'will' and others 'going to'. I will elicit answers from ss. I wll ask them which form is used for intentions or plans and which form for plans at the time of speaking. I will show ss a time line and ask some CCQs

Controlled practice (4-6 minutes) • To practise the target language and help ss to understand the difference between will and be going to

I will give ss an exercise to fill in the gaps using will or be going to. Ss will work in groups. I will monitor to check that ss are on the right track and to provide any help if necessary. I will check answers with ss.

The present continuous for future arrangements (4-6 minutes) • To elicit the target language and its use from the ss.

I will show ss a sentence on a time line and I will ask them some question. Is it about present, past or future? Is it about arrangement? What do we add to the verb? What is before the verb? I will ask ss some CCQs. I will give ss a table about the rule to fill in. Then, I will give ss an exercise to complete the sentence with the correct form of the verb. I will monitor. I will check answers with ss

Freeer activity (speaking) (5-7 minutes) • To help ss use the new labguage they have learnt in speaking activities.

I will show ss a picture of a fortune teller and ask them about her job. Then, I will tell ss that I am a fortune teller and I can tell them about their future. I will hold the hand of one the ss and look at his/her palm and start telling him /her the future. I will divide the ss into pairs. ss will play both roles.

Freeer activity (writing) (6-8 minutes) • To help ss use the new labguage they have learnt in writing activities.

I will ask ss to write to write about their plans for the next two years; where they will be living, what they will do doing, How old will you be then.....etc I will monitor and provide any help if necessary.
