Description

In this lesson students will mostly be practicing their speaking skills. The lesson will start with introduction of some new vocabulary. After that T will use visuals to help sts understand the meaning of the new vocabulary. Then, students will discuss the question in the speaking exercise. There is a paragraph after the discussion question, sts will read it and compare their ideas. After these discussions, sts will talk about the fashion styles in Turkey. The lesson will end with 'designing a style' activity.

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To generate interest on the subject, activate schemata

- Everyone gets up and gathers around the pictures on the floor, they try to get the compound words right, WC, 5 min, for feedback sts correct each other

Pre-speaking (6-8 minutes) • To introduce the lexis

- Sts go back to their seats, T uses ECDW to introduce them to the lexis. 3 min - In pairs, sts work on the 2nd exercise. PW, 3 min, feedback peer checking, T interferes if necessary

Speaking (13-15 minutes) • To engage the students with speaking in the context of the lesson

- Sts do the 1st speaking exercise in pairs, then WC talks about it together. PW, 5 min - Sts read the paragraph for the 2nd speaking exercise and compare their ideas with the rest of the class. First individual then WC, 8 min

Post-speaking (5-7 minutes) • To engage the sts further with speaking using the fashion styles in Tukey

- Sts look at the pictures with their partner and write down what they think about 2 of the fashion styles in the pictures. They will be encouraged to use the lexis at this stage. PW, 5 min., feedback WC

To encourage the sts to discuss further in the same context with a fun activity (12-15 minutes) • To engage sts further with the TL

- Everybody in groups of 3,4. They will create a fashion style. Each group draws a figure of a person who follows their fashion style. They will name the style, and answer the questions: What's their age group? What kind of music do they like? Where do they like to go? What kinds of things do they wear? What do they do on their vacations? What is their mood like? What do they value? (money, having a good time, to be famous, beauty, intelligence...) In the end sts talk about which group's fashion style they would like to follow. GW, 12 min, feedback WC
