Show photos of Star Wars characters and ask students to identify what they are looking at. Ask if anyone likes Star Wars or if it is popular in their country. Introduce Ewan McGregor to the class, ask if anyone knows him. Tell students they will be reading an interview with McGregor today.
Teach students vocabulary of the interview using the MFP model. Meaning: 1. Show matching activity on G-slide. Explain to students that they must match the highlighted words to the photos displaying their meanings. "Theater" has two definitions. Students have 1 minute to complete activity. 2. Check answers in OCFB. Form: 1. Show fill-in-the-blank activity on G-slide. Assign one sentence to each students. They must choose a word from the word bank that fits their sentence. Students will understand the words' form and function in sentences. Students have 30 seconds to complete activity. 2. Check answers in OCFB. Clarify that "role" is not specific to film. 3. Ask students if the words are nouns or adjectives, and why. 4. Bonus question: Ask students what "starring role" means, given the understanding of "movie star" and "role". Pronounciation: 1. Ask students to repeat saying each word. Show shape of mouth. 2. Show that there is no difference in pronouncing "theater" and "theatre". 3. Call on students individually to ask how many syllables a word has and where the stress is placed. Record onto the syllable table on G-slide.
1. Show little paragraph of information about McGregor from textbook on G-slide. They must read it to have some background information about McGregor. Give students 30 seconds to read. 2. Show matching activity on G-slide. Explain to students this is an interview, but it is fragmented. Students must match the interview questions with the interview answers. Give them advice: read the question first, then search in the answers for the specific information/key word that the question is asking. Show them an example with the first question and drag it above the answer. (a1). Students have 3 minutes to do this. 3. Go over answers in OCFB.
