Description

In this lesson the SS will learn about the past simple through guided discovery based on a reading text about James Bond. The lesson starts with a warm up activity and some questions about James Bond followed by a reading text about James Bond. The SS will discover the negative form of past simple. Finally the SS will have a controlled practice on reformation of questions followed by a freer practice on speaking.

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • to provide an active beginning to the lesson and activate SS schemata.

- Ask some questions about James Bond. - Elicit the meaning of 'secret agent'. - Students work in groups and think of all the things they know about James Bond. - Students share their ideas. Mention that 007 is pronounced 'double oh seven'.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • to focus on language in a text.

- Students read for gist and choose the best title. - In Ex.c), SS read the article again and answer the questions 1-6. - Check answers with the class as a whole.

Presentation (10-15 minutes) • to focus on use of language from context.

- In Ex.4, SS complete the rules with 'wasn't' and 'didn't'. - SS check their answers in pg.137. - In ex 6, SS make the sentences negative. - Focus SS attention on the example and show how sentence 1 has been made negative. - SS do the exercise individually and then check their answers in pairs. - Check answers as a whole class.

Practice (10-15 minutes) • to provide freer pactice on negatice form of past simple and provide an oppurtunity for learners to talk about their own experience.

- Give SS handouts. - SS read the sentences, tick the true ones, negate the others and make it true. - Set SS in groups. - Take turns to tell the others about their own weekends.
