Description

In this lesson students will learn some leisure activities' vocabulary based on a reading about George Clooney's life at villa Clooney.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about George Clooney's life in the context of leisure activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of leisure activities in the context of George Clooney's free time activities.

Procedure

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Show the picture of some leisure activities to the ss and ask "What kind of activities are they?", "When do you usually do them?" to elicit the word 'free time/leisure activities' 2. Give the ss 2 minutes to guess the activities in pairs. 3. Stick the flashcards on the board to help the ss and ask them to match the words with the pictures. (FB: order the words on the WB and ask them to check their answers) 4. Ask for synonyms for leisure time: 'free/spare time '. 5. Drill if necessary!

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Ask the ss "What leisure activities do you do and how often do you do them?". In pairs! WCF. 2. Show the picture of the book, George Clooney, to the ss and ask them "Who is he?" 3. Give them HOs and 1 minute and ask them to look at the pictures and the topic to describe the photos and guess what the passage could be about with their partners. (FB: Randomly)

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

1. Ask the ss to read silently in 10 minutes to give a summary. MONITOR! 2. Ask the ss to share their answers and then ask some of the ss to give a summary and some others these Qs: (FB: Randomly) Where is George's villa? What time does he wake up? What does he do in the morning? What does he do in the afternoon? What does he do in the evening? When does George go to Italy and Why?

While-Reading#2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

1. Ask a s to read a paragraph and give a summary. Focus on pronunciation! ...

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
