A reading lesson to develop learners' reading skills, interaction and understanding of vocabulary from the text

Materials

Main Aims

  • To develop learners reading skills, provide gist and having a good knowledge of tourism guide

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice and share their thoughts about Mexico tourism guide.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask my learners to discuss the following questions in pairs. Have you travelled recently? What experience did you get from the travel?

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To guide learners in the reading of the comprehension passage

I will ask the learners to read the text and respond to the questions later. Introduction of vocabulary from reading passage of the lesson ( MFP) MEANING: He NAVIGATED the traffic to arrive home on time: How did he manage to arrive home on time irrespective of the traffic? A..NAVIGATE: To direct a journey. Now Make a sentence using the word Navigate. FORM: Navigate:( Base form). It has no endings. Example ed, ing, S among others. PRONUNCIATION: I will say the words ( I will ask learners to state the correct syllabus, stress and repeat after me. Navigate: NA Vu Gayt. .The ice cream vendor's INVENTIVE approach quickly attracts more customers.( How did he manage to get more customers ? B..INVENTIVE meaning: Ability to create new ideas. FORM: Inventive(  base form) Adjective in its original form PRONUNCIATION: Inventive( IN VEN TIVE) I will pronounce the word I will ask the learners to state how many syllables, stress inventive I will ask them to repeat after me The Village COMMUNAL thanksgiving was loud: Why is the neighbourhood so noisy? C  Communal meaning: A shared interest by a group of people( Community) FORM: Communal (base form); Is an adjective in its base form. Comparative and superlative PRONUNCIATION: Communal( Com MU nal) I will pronounce the word I will ask the learners to state the syllabus and the stress MEANING: The foodies eating competition in Mexico city: Who won the eating competition? Foodies meaning: Group of people who loves trying different type of food. FORM: It is a plural noun. PRONUNCIATION: Foodies ( FOODies ) It has 2 syllabus I will pronounce it and ask the students to dictate the stress

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask learners to quickly read Passage 1 and identify the subheading of the passage with 3 minutes. After the answer will be checked generally and the leaners will give reasons for their answer.

While-Reading-2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will ask the students to read passage two and answer comprehension questions using TRUE or FALSE. I will show the questions of the passage to the students lightly( ONE MINUTE) and nominate a student to read the text. After reading the passage the questions will be given to the learners immediately to answer

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask the students to discuss the following questions to know how much they understood the lesson. a...If you have extra money, where would you like to spend the summer vacation with your family friends and why? b...During the vacation would you like to explore and why? Monitor and give feedback
