Description

The lesson starts with a discussion about what Americans who live abroad think about other countries. Then students will talk about the sth that they like about their country/city and sth they do not like. Trough this text, I will teach them vocabularies about travelling like abroad, vacation, and then they can talk about their experiences when they were at the other country/city.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and inference reading practice using a text about twhat people think about the other country/city in the context of travel and experiences they have in the other country/city

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel and experiences they have in the other country/city

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage, students are asked: Where do u live? Where is ur favorite place at ur city? Have u ever travelled/gone to another city in Iran? Discuss the things that u like or do not like about that city.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students are going to be thought the meaning of the vocabularies: abroad, vacation, foreigners, cultures with the picture that I will show them. After that they will try to match the words with the definitions.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist

In this stage, the students will look at the title and answer the following Q that I will ask: The people of which country are going to talk?( America) .Where are they? ( abroad, not in their own country) .What are they talking about?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students scanning specific information reading/listening tasks

Then they are going to do part a(right or wrong) individually in 3 minutes and then check their answers in pairs first and then feedback will be given.

While-Reading/Listening #3 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will give time to my students to read the text slowly in 10 minutes. After that students are going to do part b( complete the sentences with the name in the text) in 2 minutes and then check their answers in pairs. I will monitor them with any answers they found difficult. Then check the answers with the whole class and clear up any confusion.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will be asked to discuss the following Q in groups of 4: Talk about things that they like or do not like in their city. What are the cultures in their country/city. Which one is ur favorite? Why? Do u like to travel to another city/country? Which city do u like to travel? Why?
