Description

In this lesson the students will practise their receptive skills in the context of (An apple a day), through guided discovery and controlled read& practise, finally leading to students practising their productive skills speaking for fluency, about health-related sayings.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice in the contex of An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice useing the vocabulary ,speaking for fluency

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-------Hand out 1------ -Pass around one copy of HO1 to each student -Ask stundents to look at the picture and ask them what do they see -Some questions to ask :1.What's the man doing ? What's on the table ? etc...(2mins.) -Tell students to look at the title of the reading (An apple a day) -Ask the W/C what they thing the meaning is -Tell W/C to guess the answers to the questions at the top of HO1(3mins.)

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

-----Hand Out 1----- -Tell W/C to read the magazine article -Tell students to think about their guesses to the questions while they read -Read questions 1-2 again to WC before you start the read -Start the read (8mins.) -Pair students together -Ask students to ask each other if their guesses for questions were right ? 1-2 -Give a sort demo if needed(2mins.)

Useful Language (10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-----------Hand out 2------------ -Preteach:W/B *Disease:an illness which affects a person,animal, or plant *Prevent.to stop something from happening ,or stop someone from doing something(1min.) -Pass out one copy of HO2 to each student -Tell students to look at the chart and then to look at the left side colomn on the chart *FOOD* ,Next tell students to look at the right side colomn on the chart *DİSEASE* -Tell students to write the disease next to the food that may prevent it -Tell students that they can find the answers in the reading , -Tell WC that they can write some disease in more than one space -Tell them to work alone -Demo--- (food)all kinds of fruits and vegetables (disease)lung,colon,and stomach ---if needed -Tell stundents 5mins task, if needed give 2mins. more -İf extra time it not needed then ask students to compare answers in pairs .(2mins.)

Productive Task(s) (10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-------Hand Out 3--------- -Pass out one copy of HO3 to each student -Tell students: which words go together and to draw lines to match them -Tell stundents to work alone(2mins) -P/W tell stundents to check answer with their partner -Check answsers with WC(3mins.) -Ask to to think about any health-related saying in their countries -Demo-------''an apple a day will keep the doctor away'' and ''feed a cold , Starve a fever(2mins) -tell students to work with a partner and to write down their health -raleted sayings and what they mean -Ask stundents to share their answers with the W/C(3mins.)

Feedback and Error Correction (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

------Handout 3---------- -Ask students to look at questions on the bottom of HO3 -Question1:How many serving of fruits and vegetables do you think the average person eats a in your country? -Extra questions: What about the poor people? The young? Do they think people from the villages in their county eat more furits and vegetables then people in cities?(3mins) -Demo if needed ----answer the question to for you (?1min.?) -------------- -Tell W/C to write down their answer for question2-3 true for them and to work alone -Question2:Do you eat 5-9 servings of fruits aand vegetables everyday? Why or Why not? Give three reasons . -Question3: Do you eat colorful food? Name a red,yellow,green,and orange fruit or vegetable you like to eat (3mins) -Demo if needed--(?1min.) answer the question true for you -PW ask students to share their answers with a partner(2mins) -G/W tell students to share their answers with the W/C (2mins.) -End class with a smile and say thank you & goodnight
