Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, students will learn and practice vocabulary for talking about families. The lesson starts with a demonstration of a celebrity family to elicit what they already know. They will learn pronunciation through gap fill activities and listening tasks . They will learn how to ask for information about each other's families using "How many..?" through pair and group work.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice vocabulary for talking about families.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Reading in the context of family.
  • To gain fluency in a conversation about families.

Procedure

Warmer (2-4 minutes) • To engage students.

A demonstration of a celebrity family( Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) to elicit family members they know. I will ask them questions like: a. What can you see in this picture? b. Are they a big or a small family? c. How many children have they got? d. How many sons have they got?

Lead- in to reading (1-2 minutes) • Eliciting what they already know.

Focus students on the pictures in ex.1 page 16. Have them work write the vocabulary they know next to each picture.

Reading (4-5 minutes) • Drilling for pronunciation.

Students will individually do ex.1a page. 16. They will check their answers in paira ando then listen to a record to check their answers. Then drill for pronunciation.

Controlled practice (3-5 minutes) • To learn gender.

Students will do ex.2. They will group family vocabulary according to gender.

Overview (3-5 minutes) • A general review of the subject.

Students will do ex.4 in the student's book and ex.2 please. 11 in the workbook.
