Teaching Practice 2
To provide clarification of language used for telling the time
To provide accurate pronunciation by drilling plenty of times.
Procedure (38-49 minutes)
Use a real clock and ask what it is. Elicit the answers, drill if needed. Distribute the HO, ask them to complete ex.1 in pairs by putting the words of time in order. Project the exercise on the board and show the example which is done on the page already. Then do WCFB, write the answers on the baord.
Take the clock and round the clock step by step. Ask "What time is it?", elicit the answers. Let Ss work in pairs, do plenty of drilling paying attention to natural pronunciation.
Show them the PPT slide, the pictures of the vocabulary for the next exercise on it, and elicit the vocabulary; they learned most of them beforehand, but they may not now "cooker". Ask Ss to complete ex. 2a, they work in pairs. After checking on the board ask Ss to complete ex.2b in pairs. They are supposed to match the times with the pictures. Elicit the answer and write on the board on PPT.
Adjust the hand on the clock and and do plenty of drilling. Elicit the answers as a whole class and individually, pay attention to natural pronunciation. Then ask Ss to complete ex.2c, Ss will match the picture with the times. Do pair check and write the answers on the PPT
Have Ss do ex.3 Let them do pair-check and WCFB, write the answers on PPT. Then ask them to listen to the conversation and match with the clocks. Elicit the answer and write on the board.
Ask Ss fill in the gaps in ex.5 individually and check with their partners, then ask the Ss write on the board on PPT.
Ask Ss to listen to the conversation carefully, focus on the pronunciation. Than ask them to read the sentences individually and practice in pairs. Ask Ss to turn their HO, illustrate 3 different times in tempelates. When they complete illustrating, make new seating arrangement and let them have a new partner. Tell them sit face to face. Then tell one S to read his/her time to the other and the other one illustrate his parner's time to his/her HO onto the blank clocks. When they finish, ask them to do pair-check. During the activity, monitor carefully.
Divide the class into two teams. Draw two blank clocks on the WB. Make Ss 2 lines and take turn; when you call out a time, they should race to the board to draw it on the clock.
