Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present continuous in the context of activities they are doing in the class

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of activities they are doing in the class

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to start the class by talking about what activity I am doing right now, I am currently doing. For example: I am writing, talking with students.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my students to tell me about the activities they are doing right now, their temporary activities.(not habit)

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage, I will write some of my students sentences in the correct present continuous form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and ask my students to tell me if the given sentences are about the past ,present or future.(present). Are the actions happening now?(yes). Are the activities temporary or habit?(temporary). Can we mention the time that happened?(yes). I will ask them to tell me about the role of the words in the sentences to clarify the structure.(subj.+ am ,is ,are +v.+ ing). And I will cover the correct form of the writing of verbs when they are added ing. cook +ing=cooking/dance+ing=dancing/shop+ing=shopping.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to answer the Q in part 5b on page132 in 4 minutes individually. They will have 3 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about the activities they are doing right now or about actions they are doing temporary in groups of 4 in 6 minutes. They will be mentioned and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
