Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn how to use past simple sentences to talk about completed actions in the past, through PPP in the context of holiday. The lesson will be followed by a discussion about the best holiday with a focus on speaking accuracy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by talking about my last weekend and the things that happened to me. Then I will ask my students to tell me about their weekend.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this s I will write some of my students sentences in the correct past simple form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and ask my students to tell me if the given sentences are about the past, present or future. (past). Are the actions finished? (Yes). Can I mention the time the happened? (Yes). I will ask them to tell me about the roll of the words in the sentences to clarify the structure. I will let them know about the regular and irregular verbs. I will cover the correct pronunciation of the verbs when they are added (ed). asked /t/. played /d/. created /Id/.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to answer the questions in part 1A on page 120 in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about their best holiday ever in groups of 4 in 6 minutes. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
