In this 30-minute sample class, students will review using the simple past to talk about what they did at a specific time, starting by talking about what they do every day, building lexis to set up a practice session where they use the language

Materials

Abc Presentation (basic material)

Main Aims

  • To provide review of simple past in the context of what did they do yesterday

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of regular verbs in the context of talking about what did students do yesterday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet the students and introduce them to the session's objective. 1) Have students talk about what they do every day, guiding them with the calendar, and relate the answers on the screen. Provide an example and have students ask/ answer similarly, focusing on 3 actions per day. Ensure to have the instructions understood by recap

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

2) Have students access the link and provide specific examples on how students should answer.

Useful Language (1-2 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Review students' examples.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1) Redirect student attention to the calendar, guiding students to ask the question, to have answer production. Then have 1 student answer, with teacher. Finalize providing instructions: With your peers, create 4 different questions, so you can ask and answer later on.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1) Have students elicit answers provided by peers 2) With students' answers, redirect to meaning, form, and brief pronunciation. 3) Change to the final slide, to recap, and ask use of the form. Uncover the answer once the examples are given.
