TP1:"have/has got"
Adult - Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, students learn how to use “have/has got” yes/no questions through talking about person possessions. The lesson starts with a link to the previous lesson listening exercises based on Bill and Sally Robinson and what technology items they possess. This is followed by a gap fill answering questions about what technology items they personally possess (i.e.: mobile phone, T.V., etc.). We then move onto a sentence construction activity where students will create sentences using TL with prompts. Finally, we move onto a “Find someone who” activity where students will ask each other if they own specific technology items.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and give practice in "have/has got" yes/no questions & short answer through the context of talking about personal possession.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking in the context of personal possessions.

Procedure

Warmer/Link (3-5 minutes) • To relate my lesson to the previous lesson and set lesson context

Refer back to the previous lesson and elicit questions they heard on listening.

Continuation of Link (5-10 minutes) • Have students practice the TL in a gap fill handout

Have students work together to fill in the gaps.

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice TL

Have students do sentence construction exercises and check in pairs. Then do WCFB.

Controlled practice continued (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for students to practice TL

Pass out a data handout regarding who possesses what technology items, and have students unfold the last handout and get Ss to ask the questions and answer them with each other & lastly write the short answers in b). Then check as WC projected onto the board.

Freer practice (1-2 minutes) • To allow students to use TL in conjunction with technology vocabulary words

Split the class into two groups, half get 105 handout, half get 113 handout (folded so students only see the pictures, not the name column). Get students to work in pairs to name the vocabulary in each picture. Then practice making Have/Has got questions. THEY SHOULD NOT ASK EACH OTHER THE QUESTIONS.

Freer practice continued (6-8 minutes) • To use TL in conjunction with technology vocabulary

Demo how to do a "Find someone who" activity. Then have students mingle. Monitor for good use of the TL and check that students are speaking to more than 1 person. Lastly, get all Ss to sit down and take general FB. ex. Who's got a computer?

Language Practice, Freer practice 2 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the TL

Show students images of twins, and have a class discussion about twins typically having the same items, and use target vocabulary while having the class discussion.
