Description

Students will learn vocabulary related to trips and holidays through a PowerPoint presentation. They will also practice reading comprehension with a text containing the new words to reinforce understanding. Finally, they will engage in speaking activities where they discuss travel-related problems and plan a trip.

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation and problem solving tasks in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will illustrate a picture of tourists in a long line, waiting for their passport to be checked. I shall ask students to talk about the picture and elicit words which they have already learned. In this way, I garner their attention about the new words which they learn in this session.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

After teaching the new words, students read a short text that uses all the vocabulary. They answer simple questions about the text to check their understanding. This helps them remember the words and practice reading skills before moving to speaking activities.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: I show the picture of travel related words in order to teach them. I also use CCQs to be sure that learners learn the words correctly. For example, does jet lag happen after a long flight? and Is a hotel a type of accommodation? Pronunciation: for checking the pronunciation, we will have drills, also students individually will repeat the words again. Form: the written form of the words is illustrated in slides.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

There is a gap filling activity before the reading part with given words. Students should read the sentences snd write the correct word.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In pairs, students are given a problem and they have to share ideas about that and solve the issue. During this task, I will monitor them to check if they use the correct language and the new words.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this last part, students should talk in their groups and plan for their trip with each other by using the new words. During this task, I will monitor them to check they use the correct language. At the end, they should share that with the class.
