Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice/reinforce target language: "-Where are you from? -I'm from...." Vocabulary of Country and city names

Procedure

Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • to make Ss know T

T introduces himself and answers the questions from Ss if there's any.

Predictive Listening (3-5 minutes) • to make Ss ready for the listening material

T shows a photo of a man and a woman and asks Ss questions such as ; "What's his name?" "What's her name?" "Where's she from?" "Where's he from?" If Ss can't guess their names or country correctly, T shows "I don't know." by giving examples of himself and the people in the picture.

Listen for Gist (6-8 minutes) • to practice listening skills through gists

T writes "I'm from Sao Paulo" "I'm from Brazil." "My name's Bruno" on the WB and wants Ss to order them in order they hear them. After giving the instructions, T plays listening 2.7 and wants Ss to check their answers with pairs. Later, T provides WCFB.

Listen for Information (7-12 minutes) • to practice listening skills through listening for information

T plays Listening 2.7 again and expects Ss to complete activity 4, pg.15. Then T provides WCFB. After that T plays Listening 2.7 another time and pauses the recording after every line. After pausing the record, T gives instructions and expects Ss to repeat the lines as a class.

Listen for Information #2 (5-7 minutes) • to practice listening skills through listening for information

T plays Listening 2.8 and wants Ss to check their answers as pairs. After that T gives the true answers for the exercise.

Practice (7-10 minutes) • to make Ss use the TL in a context

T shows a picture of people having fun in a party and plays a song to catch the atmosphere. Then T wants Ss to stand at the centre of the classroom. T gives the instructions and performs an example act and later T expects Ss to invent a new dialogue and at least maintain a dialogue similiar to his.
