To help students to use the names of the months properly and improve their skills for gist and detail listening in the context of a day off.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about A day off in the context of special days.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of months of the year in the context of A day off

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the picture of ’ a day off’ on the board and ask the students what do they do in their day/s off. Ss work in groups and discuss the question with each other. Do one example with students. “What do you do in your day off?” “What is a special day for you in your life? In which month is that day”? Then nominate students to take FB.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Put the pictures from page 44 on the board. Tell student to work in groups and discuss the pictures of special days. What special days these picture could be from? Then take general FB.

While- Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Ss listen to recording in EX. 1 (recording 1.62) match the speaker 1-4 to pictures A-D. Then nominate students to write the right number under the right picture. Then hand out the answer key to check their answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss listen to recording in EX. 1 (recording 1.62) match the speaker 1-4 to pictures A-D. Then nominate students to write the right number under the right picture. Then hand out the answer key to check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Then Hand out the script for listening 1.62 to students. Students work in pairs and find out the words and expressions which tell s us about the time and date.
