Description

In this lesson, students read a reading about a writer,in pre_reading phase they learn the blocking words, in reading phase they read the passage and in the post reading phase they will practice the grammar and related vocabulary through a speaking task. In the previous session they learned simple past (was/were)

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson students will have practiced reading for gist and spcefic information in a passage about a writer's biography

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson students will have practiced speaking in the context of biographies /students will have learned related vocabulary

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To engage Ss in the topic of the lesson and activete their schema

start by talking about my favorite book and ask my students about the last book that they read. And ask my students about their favorite book genres then I will ask then whether or not they have ever read any biographies, if yes, i will ask them to name the book and who it was about, if no, I will ask if they know any famous people,and whether they know anything about their lives

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teach the students all blocking words that they need to know to understand the reading students will do a gap_ fill task to get familiar with the new words of the reading ask the week students to make a sentences with the words.

While-Reading (5-7 minutes) • Reading for gist /reading for specific information

students will read the text once and answer the gist question in pairs+ ask ICQs. then they will read it again and answer more specific questions + ask ICQs .

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide learners with an opportunity to use the simple past of to be in context by writing and speaking about real or famous people.To encourage critical thinking through a guessing game

1. Explain the task: students work in groups to write 4 clues about a famous dead person using simple past of to be (e.g., date of birth, profession, achievements ) 2. preparation time: Group choose a person and write four clues. 3. Guessing game; one group reads their clues aloud ; the other group guesses who it is. continue until all groups have had a turn. 4. feedback : Highlight good examples and correct common mistakes on the board
