In this lesson, ss will learn how to produce sentences in the context of travel

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of sentences in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about things to do in a city in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T WOB: Do you like summer holiday or winter holiday? Why? What's your favourite holiday place? Why? Inst: Discuss in pairs.

Vocabulary Building (1-2 minutes) • To provide ss with the necessary vocabulary

Weather: sunny, rainy, snowy.... CCQ: What's the weather like today? (It's hot and sunny...) Souvenirs: you go to holiday and buy small gifts for your family, your friends. CCQ: What's a good souvenir? (Magnets, decorative goods, bracelets....) Drill&Show stress Guidebook: a tourist comes to Istanbul, and buys a kind of book. In it, she sees famous places, advices about food etc. What is it called?

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

As pre-reading: Inst: Put the words in the categories to fill the gaps in the text. Work in pairs T folded gives the first half of the text with the gaps and ss put them in the correct place. Group check. AK given as handout. Inst: Which country is it about? Look at the text for 1 minute and find. FB: Whole class Inst: Look at the next exercise. Are sentences True or False? You have 3 minutes Peercheck FB: AK on WOB.

Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

For Grammar: T gives the same HO but the useful language having been hidden. Inst: Fill in the gaps FB: WC/Check from the text. For Vocabulary: Brainstorm about Turkey's qualities to alert the ss.

Productive Task(s) (13-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Inst: Write a guidebook for Turkey. You can use the ideas on the board. If time allows, ss add another category: 'entertainment'.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ss put their products on the walls and check each others' products. T writes marker sentences on the board meanwhile and highlight the good and weaker example sentences. If time left, ss read aloud their guidebooks and choose the best ones.
