Procedure (61-77 minutes)
Distribute the handout titled “Unit 2: Holidays” to each student. Tell SS to look at ex 1A on p 40 and answer the given questions in pairs. Monitor them closely and get a whole class feedback.
Instruct SS to complete the quiz “What’s your holiday personality?” in ex 1B on p 40 individually. Encourage SS to share their results with the class to prompt brief discussion. Tell SS to match the words with their definitions in ex 2A, p 40. Have them compare answers with a partner and check meanings in a dictionary. Get a whole-class feedback.
Give each student a second handout titled Unit 2 – Holiday Suggestions (Reading Text). Tell SS to look at the exercise called “Better Reading-Prediction”. Instruct them to read the title and the first post of the discussion form and answer the questions in pairs. Give students three minutes to read the rest of the discussion forum individually and answer the questions. Have them check their answers in pairs.Get a whole-class feedback.
Instruct SS to read the discussion forum again and answer the questions in ex 3B on p 41. Have SS peer-check and compare their answers in pairs. Elicit the answers from the whole class.
In ex 4A on p 41, tell SS to imagine they are going to swap their house with someone from another country. Give them two minutes to make some notes about their home. In ex 4B, have students work in groups. Instruct them to ask and answer questions about each other’s homes to find someone they would like to swap homes with. Provide a whole-class feedback.
Give each student a new handout titled “Unit 2: Travel and Tourism“. Instruct SS to rank the six items from 1 to 6 according to what they like to take photos of when they travel in ex 1A, p 3. In ex 1B, instruct Ss to compare their rankings in pairs and explain their reasons for the choices. Provide a whole-class feedback. Instruct them to match the pictures with the countries in ex 1C on p 3. Have them compare their answers with a partner. Elicit answers from the whole class.
Have SS watch the documentary video and complete ex 2A by checking if their answers in 1C were correct. Ask a few follow-up questions such as “What was the video about? What do millennials care about the most when they go on holiday?” Encourage brief discussion among SS. Have SS listen to the video again and complete ex 2B, p 3. Have SS pair-check their answers and compare. Elicit the correct answers from the whole class. Play the video one more time for SS to complete the gap-fill task in ex 2C on p 4. Elicit the answers from different SS. Get a whole-class feedback.
In ex 4A, tell SS to imagine they work for a travel company. Give SS 5 minutes to plan a tour by answering the questions and writing notes individually. In ex 4B, have SS work in groups and take turns presenting their tour ideas to the group. While each student is presenting, encourage other SS to ask some questions about the tour. Monitor them closely and get a whole class feedback.
Ask SS reflective questions such as “What new words did you learn today? Which activity did you enjoy the most and why?”
